Chapter 11 - The Camera Behind the Bookshelf

Rosa had supervised the renovation of Andrea’s office years earlier.

She knew the visible camera was not the only one.

Andrea’s father had installed a backup system after confidential company documents disappeared during a merger dispute.

The hidden camera operated on a separate battery and stored footage on a private server.

Marco never knew it existed.

Neither did Valerie.

Two nights before the party, Valerie entered Andrea’s office at 1:17 a.m.

She covered the visible camera with a silk scarf.

Then she entered the safe code.

The hidden camera captured everything.

Valerie removed the original DNA screening, Andrea’s surgical report and the trust’s certified maternity declaration.

She replaced them with the forged surrogacy agreement and false Hartwell DNA report.

Then she took a black ledger from the bottom shelf.

The ledger documented payments Marco approved through Whitmore subsidiaries.

It was the strongest evidence of his embezzlement.

Rosa watched the footage remotely from her sister’s apartment.

She immediately called Rebecca and Detective Daniel.

Then she printed a still image showing Valerie’s face beside the open safe.

Rosa feared Marco monitored Andrea’s calls and electronic messages.

She needed to place physical evidence inside the house.

She contacted Leo through the child-safe watch Andrea had given him.

“Do you remember the silver picture of you and Mommy?”

“Yes.”

“Take it to your room. Don’t let anyone throw it away.”

Rosa entered the estate the next afternoon using an old service key Marco had forgotten to deactivate.

She placed the security image and a handwritten note behind the photograph.

The note contained the hidden server address and access code.

Leo found her near the upstairs hallway.

“Why are you hiding?”

Rosa knelt.

“I need you to keep something safe for Mommy.”

“Is Daddy doing bad things?”

Rosa’s eyes filled with tears.

“Your daddy is making dangerous choices. But none of this is your fault.”

She told Leo to bring the picture to Andrea if Marco asked him to call Valerie his mother.

Leo hugged the frame to his chest.

“I won’t say it.”

Footsteps sounded downstairs.

Rosa left through the service entrance.

Minutes later, Marco searched Leo’s room.

The frame was hidden inside the boy’s birthday backpack.

Marco never found it.

👉 Rosa placed the proof in Leo’s hands, but the birthday party would force a frightened five-year-old to decide whether he could stand against his own father.
