Chapter 15 - The Truth Lauren Traded for Herself
Lauren requested an attorney before answering questions.
Nathan did the same.
They were questioned separately.
Within six hours, each began blaming the other.
Lauren claimed Nathan designed the financial scheme.
Nathan claimed Lauren forged every document without his knowledge.
Investigators showed Lauren messages in which Nathan promised to marry her after the divorce.
Then they showed her a second set of messages.
Nathan had been communicating with another woman in Miami.
He planned to move the offshore funds there alone.
Lauren had helped him destroy Olivia because she believed they were building a future together.
Nathan intended to abandon her as soon as she became inconvenient.
Lauren’s loyalty disappeared.
She surrendered encrypted files, email archives and recordings.
One recording captured Nathan explaining why Olivia was the perfect target.
“She has no parents. No brothers. No one who will spend money fighting for her. Once Mae died, there was nobody left.”
Lauren asked whether Olivia might discover the forged accounts.
Nathan laughed.
“Who will believe a pregnant orphan over a company president and an attorney?”
The recording spread through the investigation.
It revealed not only fraud, but calculation.
Nathan had waited until Mae died.
He had waited until pregnancy limited Olivia’s movement.
He had isolated her from employees and advisers.
Then he created the conditions he later used against her in court.
Lauren admitted she obtained Olivia’s adoption index because Nathan feared a family connection might produce money for legal fees.
They did not know Olivia was a Whitmore.
They simply wanted to close every possible escape.
Lauren accepted a cooperation agreement.
She still faced prison, disbarment and restitution.
Her testimony did not erase what she had done.
Nathan refused to cooperate.
He insisted EverHome would not exist without him.
The forensic audit proved otherwise.
Sales increased because of Olivia’s patented modular designs.
Nathan had diverted profits, falsified debts and licensed some of those designs to a separate company owned by Lauren.
He had been draining EverHome for nearly two years.
The independent receiver returned operational authority to Olivia after her medical recovery.
Henry offered to purchase the company’s debts.
Olivia refused.
“I need to know I can rebuild what I started.”
Henry respected the decision.
He did not try to rescue her by taking control.
He gave her the legal support Nathan had denied her and allowed her to choose the rest.
