Chapter 11 - The Name Inside Two Frauds
The woman’s name was Judith Crane.
Thirty-one years earlier, Judith worked as a nurse’s aide at Whitmore Memorial Hospital.
She disappeared three days after Olivia was taken.
Years later, she resurfaced under another name and worked for private adoption agencies.
She also created shell trusts for clients seeking to hide money.
Nathan’s supposed Cole Family Trust carried Judith’s signature as administrator.
She had died four years earlier.
Nathan could not have received money from a trust she managed after her death.
Sarah returned to court with the death certificate and employment history.
Nathan claimed he knew nothing about Judith.
Lauren said an outside accountant prepared the trust records.
“Which accountant?” Sarah asked.
Lauren could not provide a name.
The judge ordered the trust documents excluded pending investigation.
Nathan’s claim that his family funded EverHome began collapsing.
But the judge still had to decide ownership using the remaining records.
Nathan’s name appeared on corporate filings.
Nathan controlled the bank accounts.
Nathan had witnesses claiming Olivia voluntarily stepped away.
Olivia’s designs created the company, but she had trusted her husband to manage legal details.
That trust had left her vulnerable.
The judge ruled that Nathan would retain temporary control of EverHome while a separate fraud investigation proceeded.
The house also remained with him because it was owned through the company.
Olivia would receive a limited monthly payment after debts were resolved.
Those debts might take years to examine.
Nathan leaned toward Lauren and smiled.
He had not won permanently.
But he had taken enough to leave Olivia without shelter, money or immediate control.
Then the judge addressed temporary custody.
Because Olivia lacked stable housing, the court ordered an evaluation after the baby’s birth.
Nathan would be permitted to seek shared custody.
Olivia’s chest tightened.
The judgment had turned his theft into evidence that he could provide a better home.
Nathan stood as the judge ended the hearing.
“You leave with nothing,” he shouted.
The deputy grabbed him.
“Let’s see how you survive now.”
Olivia reached for the table.
The photograph fell.
She saw the birthmark.
The courtroom door opened.
Henry Whitmore entered with Marcus, two trust attorneys and the sealed DNA report.
He crossed the room and held Olivia as though he had been waiting his entire life for that exact moment.
“We found you, sweetheart.”
Henry placed the missing-child file on Sarah’s table.
Nathan stared at the inheritance trust beneath it.
The judge looked at Marcus.
“Is that report verified?”
“Yes, Your Honor.”
The DNA probability exceeded 99.99 percent.
Olivia Parker was Olivia Catherine Whitmore, the child abducted from Whitmore Memorial Hospital.
The judge lifted her gavel.
“The court will remain in session.”
