Chapter 13 - The Judgment Reopened
The courtroom filled again.
Henry sat directly behind Olivia.
His hand rested on the back of her chair.
Sarah presented the verified DNA report, sealed adoption history and Whitmore trust.
Nathan’s attorney argued that Olivia’s parentage had no relevance to the divorce judgment.
Sarah agreed on one point.
“Her wealth does not determine whether Nathan committed fraud.”
She then introduced the Whitmore forensic team’s preliminary findings.
The nine-hundred-thousand-dollar accounts under Olivia’s name were opened using an internet address assigned to Lauren’s law firm.
Electronic signatures were inserted through software registered to Nathan’s assistant.
The supposed Cole Family Trust had never existed.
Its funds came from an EverHome line of credit taken against company property.
Nathan borrowed company money, routed it through a shell trust and presented it as his personal investment.
The house had not been purchased by Nathan.
It had been purchased using EverHome revenue generated from Olivia’s copyrighted designs.
The resignation letter and management transfer carried copied signatures.
The disputed debts were created after Nathan began the affair with Lauren.
Sarah asked the judge to vacate every ruling based on those documents.
Nathan stood.
“This is her father buying a different outcome.”
The judge ordered him to sit.
Henry did not react.
He did not need to use power theatrically.
He had arrived with evidence.
Lauren whispered urgently to Nathan.
A deputy told them to stop communicating.
The judge reviewed the audit summary and issued an immediate order.
Nathan was removed from temporary control of EverHome.
The house and company accounts were placed under an independent receiver.
The financial award against Olivia was suspended.
The custody finding based on her lack of housing was vacated because Nathan had created that instability through suspected fraud.
Nathan began shouting.
“You can’t take my company!”
Olivia turned toward him.
“My designs built it.”
“I made it profitable.”
“You made it evidence.”
Lauren tried to leave the courtroom.
Detective Marcus blocked the aisle.
A second detective entered carrying a warrant.
Lauren was being investigated for forgery, identity theft, falsifying evidence and unauthorized access to sealed adoption records.
Nathan stared at her.
“What did you tell them?”
Lauren’s face changed.
He was already preparing to blame her.
The alliance that destroyed Olivia began cracking the moment consequences arrived.
The judge ordered Nathan’s phone, computers and financial devices preserved.
Then she looked at Olivia.
“Ms. Whitmore, this court apologizes for the harm caused by documents now shown to be fraudulent.”
Olivia held her stomach.
The apology mattered.
But her daughter kicked hard beneath her hand.
The day was not over.
Neither was the danger.
