Chapter 12 - Thomas’s Final Condition

Miriam opened the envelope.

Thomas’s letter was brief.

He wrote that Hale & Hearth existed because he and Evelyn trusted each other when they owned nothing.

He refused to let future heirs turn that trust into a weapon.

If any beneficiary knowingly participated in coercing Evelyn or fraudulently pledging company assets, that person’s family shares would be forfeited.

The shares would transfer into the Hale Employee Ownership Trust.

Daniel’s twelve percent stake was worth more than eighteen million dollars.

He looked physically ill.

“This cannot be enforceable.”

“It is,” Miriam said. “You signed the trust acceptance after your father died.”

“I didn’t know this letter existed.”

“You acknowledged sealed conditions.”

Daniel looked at Evelyn.

“You would take Dad’s shares from me?”

“I did not forge my own signature.”

“It was paperwork.”

“It was a theft attempt.”

Vanessa grabbed his arm.

“Tell them I didn’t know.”

Michael placed her email on the table.

Evelyn won’t sign willingly. Use the version Daniel uploaded.

Richard read it aloud.

Vanessa’s hand fell from Daniel’s arm.

Caroline began crying silently.

Richard looked at his daughter.

“You knew.”

“I knew she was being difficult.”

“You knew the signature was not hers.”

Vanessa’s voice rose.

“She was blocking our future!”

“No,” Evelyn said. “I was protecting mine.”

Daniel turned on Vanessa.

“You wrote that email?”

“You told me the uploaded version would hold.”

“I said we needed time.”

“You said your mother would eventually surrender.”

The argument exposed what neither wanted to admit.

They had both known.

Daniel expected pressure to wear Evelyn down.

Vanessa expected humiliation to accelerate it.

The gravy incident had not begun the conspiracy.

It had simply stripped away the final disguise.

Richard withdrew Shaw Capital’s investment immediately.

He also ordered his legal team to preserve every message involving Vanessa.

“We will cooperate with the board investigation.”

Vanessa stared at him.

“You’re choosing her over me?”

Richard’s expression was filled with grief.

“I am choosing evidence over the daughter I wanted to believe I raised.”

Before Vanessa could answer, Michael received another alert.

The butler’s-pantry camera had uploaded the dinner footage to the secured legal server.

It captured the spit.

It also contained weeks of conversations from the hallway.

Miriam pressed play.

Vanessa’s own voice filled the room.

If she won’t sign before dinner, embarrass her until she does.

Daniel answered:

Don’t hurt her.

Then Vanessa laughed.

I only need her to understand nobody respects her.

May you like

The room became colder.

👉 The recording proved Vanessa planned the humiliation, but Daniel’s weak warning could not hide how much abuse he had knowingly allowed.
