Chapter 13 - The Employee Who Kept Copies
Her name was Tasha Green.
She had worked as Vela House’s operations manager for two years.
Vanessa fired her after she questioned missing customer refunds.
Tasha saved copies of internal files because she feared being blamed when the company collapsed.
She brought Miriam a hard drive.
It contained false sales reports.
Altered safety tests.
Investor presentations using fabricated numbers.
And a video from the downtown apartment.
In the recording, Vanessa sat beside Daniel practicing Claire’s signature on blank bank forms.
Daniel corrected the angle of the letters.
“Claire signs more slowly,” he said.
Vanessa tried again.
“That close enough?”
“The bank accepted the last one.”
Tasha also provided messages about the trust withdrawal made during Claire’s medical procedure.
Vanessa asked Daniel whether Claire might notice.
Daniel replied:
Not if she’s still groggy. I’ll delete the alert.
The evidence destroyed any claim that Daniel misunderstood the transfer.
He had planned it.
The product files were equally disturbing.
Vela House’s most popular serum contained an ingredient at a concentration far above safe recommendations.
Several customers developed chemical burns.
Vanessa knew.
She ordered staff to classify complaints as allergic reactions.
Tasha refused.
Vanessa fired her and threatened to accuse her of stealing formulas.
Claire touched the healing burn on her own cheek while reading the reports.
“What happens to the customers?”
“A class-action case is forming,” Miriam said.
“Can the frozen funds repay them?”
“Some.”
Claire considered the trust money that had been recovered.
None of it legally belonged to Vela House.
Still, she offered to contribute part of the recovered joint savings to a victim fund once the court approved the distribution.
Miriam reminded her that Daniel and Vanessa caused the harm.
“I know,” Claire said. “But customers should not wait years because the guilty people spent everything.”
That decision later became important.
It showed the difference between Claire and the family who called her selfish.
Vanessa responded to Tasha’s evidence by accusing her of blackmail.
Tasha released nothing publicly.
She gave everything directly to investigators.
A grand jury opened a fraud case.
Daniel’s attorney urged him to cooperate against Vanessa.
Vanessa’s attorney offered the opposite.
The siblings who claimed family loyalty was sacred began preparing to betray each other.
But before either could make a deal, police discovered that Daniel had violated the no-contact order.
