Chapter 9 - The Belt on the Desk

Nathaniel entered the bedroom holding the necklace.

“You recorded me.”

Isabella did not deny it.

“You used my identity.”

“You are my wife.”

“That does not make my name your property.”

Savannah closed the door.

Nathaniel placed the necklace on the dresser.

“How much did you send?”

“Enough.”

His face tightened.

“To your father?”

“To people who understand fraud.”

Nathaniel seized Isabella’s phone.

He searched the messages but found nothing.

The hidden phone remained inside the makeup case.

Savannah began opening drawers.

“What are you looking for?” Isabella asked.

“Any other little devices.”

Nathaniel stepped closer.

“You will sign the postnup tomorrow.”

“No.”

“The documents will state that you approve every company transfer made during our marriage.”

“No.”

“You will also transfer management rights in your family trust.”

“You cannot force that.”

Nathaniel smiled.

“You still believe your father can save you.”

“He can.”

“The mechanic?”

Isabella looked at him.

Nathaniel continued.

“You could have told me who he was. Instead, you watched me struggle while your father held the money.”

“He financed you.”

“He controlled me.”

“He protected his investment.”

“He humiliated me.”

“No. Your ego did that.”

Nathaniel slapped her.

The room became silent.

It was the first time he struck her face.

Isabella tasted blood.

Savannah looked shocked for half a second.

Then she said, “She pushed you.”

Nathaniel stared at his own hand.

The same calculation Isabella had seen before replaced remorse.

“You attacked me,” he said.

Isabella understood.

They would use the false medical story.

She moved toward the door.

Nathaniel blocked her.

Savannah took the hidden makeup case from the vanity.

The second phone slipped onto the carpet.

Nathaniel picked it up.

His anger became something colder.

“You were going to call him.”

Isabella reached for the phone.

Nathaniel pushed her onto the bed.

Savannah carried both phones into the study.

Nathaniel followed, dragging Isabella by the arm.

On the desk lay the postnup.

Beside it was a black leather belt.

Nathaniel removed the belt from his hand and placed it across the papers.

“You have one final chance to behave like my wife.”

Isabella looked toward the small red light hidden among the books.

The old camera was recording.

👉 Nathaniel believed he had taken Isabella’s last phone, unaware that Edward was already watching the study through the camera Nathaniel never knew existed.
