Chapter 3 - The Camera in the Nursery

Daniel opened Elena’s cloud account on his phone.

The nursery camera archive contained hundreds of ordinary moments.

Elena folding baby clothes.

Elena speaking to her unborn daughter.

Elena sitting in the rocking chair while recording messages for Daniel.

Then he found the final saved video.

The timestamp showed 6:42 p.m., two nights earlier.

Elena stood beside the crib, one hand supporting her lower back. Victoria entered carrying a silver tray with tea.

“You need to rest,” Victoria said.

“I’m waiting for Daniel’s call.”

“He has more important responsibilities.”

Elena’s face tightened.

“He calls every night.”

Victoria placed the cup on the table.

“You have already distracted him enough.”

Elena did not touch the tea.

“I know about the documents.”

Victoria stopped moving.

Daniel leaned closer to the screen.

“What documents?” Victoria asked.

“The transfers from Daniel’s company into Marcus’s accounts.”

Victoria’s expression changed instantly.

“You searched my office?”

“I found statements mixed with the baby’s trust papers.”

Elena held up several photographed pages.

“I sent copies somewhere safe.”

Victoria stepped closer.

“You have no idea what you’re interfering with.”

“I know you used Daniel’s signature while he was overseas.”

Victoria smiled without warmth.

“You are a waitress’s daughter who married above her place. Do you truly think anyone will believe you over me?”

Elena placed both hands protectively over her stomach.

“Daniel will.”

Victoria left without another word.

Thirty minutes later, the camera captured Marcus entering.

He looked anxious.

“Elena, you need to leave tonight.”

“Why?”

“Mother knows you copied the records.”

“Then help me call the police.”

Marcus shook his head.

“You don’t understand what she’ll do.”

Before Elena could answer, Dr. Reeves appeared at the nursery door carrying a medical bag.

Victoria stood behind him.

The recording ended.

Daniel tried to access the next clip.

It had been deleted.

But Elena’s cloud service had saved the audio separately.

He pressed play.

There was a struggle.

Elena shouted, “Don’t touch me!”

Marcus yelled, “Mother, stop!”

Then Dr. Reeves’s voice:

“Hold her arm steady.”

A crash followed.

Elena gasped.

“You’re hurting the baby.”

Victoria answered with terrifying calm.

“The child was never supposed to inherit Daniel’s shares.”

Daniel stopped the recording.

His entire body shook.

This had never been about disapproval.

It had been about money.

And his unborn daughter had been targeted before taking her first breath.

A nurse rushed from Elena’s room.

“Mr. Carter, we need your consent. The baby is in distress.”

Daniel signed the emergency forms with trembling hands.

As Elena was moved toward surgery, her fingers suddenly curled around his.

Her eyes remained closed.

But her lips moved.

“Blue…”

Daniel leaned closer.

“What?”

“The blue folder…”

Then she slipped unconscious again.

👉 Inside Elena’s hidden blue folder was proof that Victoria had been stealing from Daniel for years—and a name Daniel never expected to see.
