Chapter 12 - The Will She Buried
Richard Carter’s real will had been signed six months before his death.
It placed his shares into separate trusts for Daniel, Marcus, and any future grandchildren.
Victoria was to receive a lifetime allowance—but no voting power.
The will included a written explanation.
My wife has repeatedly used family assets without authorization. I fear her desire for control now outweighs her concern for our sons.
Samuel Grant and two attorneys had witnessed it.
After Richard died, one attorney disappeared.
The other died in what was described as a boating accident.
Samuel went into hiding.
Victoria presented a different will granting herself temporary control over the company until Daniel turned thirty-five.
Daniel had turned thirty-five two weeks earlier.
That deadline explained the urgency.
Once Daniel returned from the UAE, he planned to assume full chairmanship.
Elena’s child would activate the final trust.
Victoria was about to lose everything.
So she created a tragedy that would leave Daniel emotionally broken, legally vulnerable, and dependent on her again.
Elena’s supposed death would give Victoria control of Hope’s shares.
The forged toxicology report would silence Daniel if he resisted.
Marcus’s stolen-money trail would remove the second son.
It was not one crime.
It was a complete succession plan built on graves.
The Carter Global board called an emergency meeting.
Several members still supported Victoria.
They had known her for decades and could not believe she had ordered Elena’s murder.
Daniel appeared by video from the hospital.
He showed them the forged death certificates.
The sedative payments.
The stolen funds.
The original will.
One board member interrupted.
“These documents have not been tested in court.”
Elena, still weak, moved beside Daniel.
“Neither had my death certificate.”
The room fell silent.
“I was alive when Dr. Reeves signed it,” she continued. “My daughter was moving when Victoria ordered the coffin closed.”
No one defended Victoria after that.
The board suspended every account connected to her.
Federal authorities froze her properties.
News outlets began reporting the attempted murder.
Victoria’s photograph appeared across the country.
For the first time, she had no company, no mansion, and no respected name protecting her.
But she still had Dr. Reeves.
Police discovered that he had chartered a private plane under another name.
The flight was scheduled to leave before dawn.
Two passengers were listed.
Simon Reeves.
And Victoria Carter.
Daniel believed she would run.
Elena did not.
“She won’t leave without the thing she values most.”
“The money?”
“No.”
Elena looked at him.
“Control over you.”
Victoria had one final piece of evidence capable of destroying Daniel publicly.
