Chapter 9 - The Poisoned Medication Discovery
Arthur Vance's face went completely ghost white now.
He took two fast steps backward away from Julian.
He placed his legal papers back into his briefcase.
"I was not aware of any physical abuse, Julian," Arthur said.
"I am withdrawing as your defense counsel effective immediately."
Julian grabbed his lawyer's sleeve in pure, sheer panic.
"Arthur! You can't abandon me! I paid you!"
Arthur pulled his arm away from Julian's grip cold.
He turned around and sprinted down the stairs fast.
He fled the house to save his own license.
At that moment, two paramedics walked upstairs carrying gear.
They entered the bathroom where Margaret rested on chair.
A female paramedic named Sarah knelt beside the woman.
She performed a rapid blood sugar and toxicity test.
She inserted a small digital tester into Margaret's finger.
The digital monitor chimed green, displaying chemical results.
Paramedic Sarah looked up at Officer Miller with gravity.
"Officer Miller, the patient's blood contains heavy sedatives."
"We found high levels of Scopolamine in system."
"Scopolamine?" I asked, my brow pulling together tight.
"It is a central nervous system depressant," Sarah explained.
"It induces severe memory confusion, weakness, and paralysis."
"In high doses, it renders victims completely submissive."
"Someone has been drugging this elderly woman daily."
Pure, freezing horror washed through my entire soul.
They hadn't just physically beaten Margaret in her room.
They were systematically drugging her daily with toxic sedatives.
They made her appear senile to visiting medical inspectors.
They used chemical restraint to break her mind down.
So she would eventually sign over her entire trust.
Tears of rage burned hot inside my eyes now.
The sheer monstrous evil of Julian Vance was bottomless.
Officer Miller's face turned into dark, lethal steel.
He did not hesitate for another single second today.
He grabbed Julian's wrist, twisting his arm back hard.
Julian groaned in pain, forced down onto knees.
Cold steel handcuffs clicked shut around his thick wrists.
