Chapter 8 - The Corrupt Lawyer's Intervention

Julian backed away, his hands trembling violently now.
"I demand to speak to my personal attorney!"
Before Officer Miller could step forward with cold steel,
Heavy footsteps clicked rapidly up the wooden staircase steps.
A tall man in an expensive gray suit appeared.
He carried a thick leather legal document briefcase today.
It was Arthur Vance, Julian's high-priced corporate defense attorney.
Arthur Vance wore an arrogant, patronizing smirk on face.
"Hold on right there, Officer Miller!" Arthur shouted.
He stepped between the police officers and Julian Vance.
He pulled an official paper document from his briefcase.
"I am Attorney Arthur Vance representing the defendant today."
"I have an emergency court injunction signed this morning."
"A county judge granted my client temporary full power."
"Any police interference in this residence is legally invalid!"
Julian let out a loud sigh of immense, sweet relief.
He wiped sweat from his forehead, grinning at me.
"I told you, Elena! You cannot defeat my legal team!"
Arthur Vance looked at me with smug condescension.
"Attorney Elena Vance, your protective order is superseded today."
"My client holds legal authority over his mother's care."
"We are taking Margaret to a private clinic now."
"I suggest you leave this private property before arrest."
I stood my ground, my posture remaining granite hard.
I did not show a single shred of fear.
I pulled a secondary paper from my blue blouse.
I handed the document straight to Officer Miller's hands.
"Read the timestamp on that paper, Officer Miller," I said.
Officer Miller scanned the top lines of white paper.
"Your injunction was signed at nine AM, Arthur," Miller said.
"Attorney Elena's order was signed by Judge Thorne noon."
"Judge Thorne's order explicitly voided all previous power attorney."
"Because of documented criminal evidence of physical assault."
Arthur Vance's smug expression froze completely in place.
His jaw tightened as he realized his legal maneuver failed.
His paper was rendered completely useless by Judge Thorne.
"Furthermore, Arthur," I stepped closer to the attorney.
"You notarized those forged transfer documents yesterday afternoon."
May you like
"That makes you an active co-conspirator in fraud."
