Chapter 6 - The Fake Dementia Claim

Julian pounded his heavy fist on the wooden door.
"I know you are in there, Elena!" he shouted.
"Bring my mother out of that bathroom right now!"
"She needs her scheduled daily medication in her room!"
I did not flinch or back away from door.
I slowly turned the brass deadbolt lock to open.
The heavy wooden door swung open into the hallway.
I stood firmly in the doorway, blocking his path.
My posture was rigid, composed, and radiating cold power.
I wore my professional blue blouse and tailored trousers.
Julian glared down at me with pure, unbridled rage.
"Get out of my way, Elena!" Julian yelled.
"You have no right to lock doors in house!"
"I am her legal guardian under state law!"
I looked Julian straight in his angry dark eyes.
"You are no longer her guardian, Julian Vance," I said.
I held up my smartphone screen before his face.
The digital document displayed an official state court seal.
A temporary emergency protective order signed by Judge Thorne.
"Judge Thorne just revoked your legal guardianship five minutes ago."
"Full emergency custody is transferred to my office now."
Julian's jaw dropped open in complete, utter shock.
His face drained of all its remaining healthy color.
"That... that is impossible!" Julian stammered out frantically.
"You cannot obtain a court order without a hearing!"
"Exigent circumstances involving felony elder abuse allow it," I answered.
Downstairs, the front oak door was kicked wide.
Heavy boots thundered into the lower entry foyer space.
"Police! Stay where you are! Hands in air!"
Four armed state police officers rushed up the staircase.
Officer Miller led the team with his sidearm drawn.
Chloe ran up the stairs behind them, weeping hysterically.
"Officer! She broke into our home!" Chloe screamed.
"She is kidnapping my sick mother-in-law from room!"
Julian quickly seized on his wife's desperate lie.
He pointed a shaking finger directly at my chest.
"Officer, arrest this woman for trespassing and kidnapping!"
"My mother suffers from severe paranoid dementia delusions!"
"She makes up crazy stories about physical abuse daily!"

Julian lied smoothly, trying to reclaim his lost control.
