Chapter 4 - The Financial Conspiracy

I stood in the upstairs bathroom holding Margaret close.

I wrapped a warm, dry towel around her shoulders.

"Do you know why they hurt you today, Margaret?"

Margaret's pale lips trembled as she tried to answer.

"They wanted me to sign the bank papers, Elena."

"What bank papers?" I asked, my brows furrowing tight.

"Julian brought a thick folder to my bed yesterday."

"He wanted me to surrender full power of attorney."

"He wanted me to transfer the twelve million dollars."

"When I refused, Chloe grabbed a wooden ruler."

"She struck my arms while Julian held my legs."

My stomach churned with pure, unadulterated, lethal disgust.

They were physically torturing an eighty-year-old mother for money.

They wanted her signature on a forged financial waiver.

If she signed, they would move funds to Panama.

Then they would place Margaret in an unlicensed facility.

Where she would die quietly from drug overdose complications.

The sheer monstrous greed of Julian was laid bare.

I reached into my leather briefcase resting on floor.

I pulled out a tablet device connected to servers.

As an officer of the court, I checked records.

I ran a forensic search on the Vance estate.

Three unauthorized wire transfer requests were logged yesterday afternoon.

Julian had submitted forged documents to the estate bank.

The bank had flagged the transactions for manual verification.

The bank required an in-person signature from Margaret today.

That was why Julian was desperate for her signature.

The bank deadline was five o'clock this afternoon date.

If the papers were not signed by five o'clock,

The bank would freeze Julian's personal corporate accounts permanently.

Julian was running out of time to pay debt.

His creditors were coming to his house tonight.

He risked everything on this final desperate violent push.

I tapped my tablet screen, sending files to police.

I uploaded the flagged bank transfer receipts as evidence.

I attached the financial fraud report to the protective order.

The legal trap was snapping shut on Julian fast.

In the distance, the faint sound of sirens began.

Sirens wailed softly through the suburban neighborhood streets.

The police were two blocks away from the house.

I looked down at Margaret's pale, brave old face.
