Chapter 5 - The Video Evidence

Arthur Vance brought his mobile phone to his ear.
"Deputy, I need immediate law enforcement at estate."
"We have an active domestic burglary in progress."
I let out a low, chilling, confident laugh.
I pulled my phone out once again fast.
"Call them, Arthur. I insist you call them."
Arthur paused, his thumb hovering over the dial button.
"What are you playing at, Ethan?" Arthur asked.
I opened a secondary video file on screen.
"Last month, I installed hidden cameras in office."
"Cameras hidden inside the mahogany desk clock unit."
I turned the screen toward Arthur Vance's face.
The video thumbnail showed three weeks ago date.
The high-definition video feed began playing with audio.
On screen, Arthur Vance sat in my office.
He was signing Margaret's name onto trust waivers.
He was stamping official notary seals on fake documents.
The audio recorded his conversation with Margaret clearly:
"Once Emma signs this, the ten million cleared."
Arthur's recorded voice echoed clearly across the driveway.
"No court will ever trace the offshore transfers back."
Arthur Vance's face went completely ghostly white instantly.
The color drained from his cheeks in seconds.
Sweat broke out across his forehead skin fast.
His hands began trembling so hard he dropped phone.
The mobile phone clattered against the driveway pavement.
"Where... where did you get that recording?"
"I own the corporate server, Arthur," I replied.
"Every single meeting in that room was recorded."
"Falsifying notarized federal trust waivers carries fifteen years."
"And conspiring to defraud an heir is federal wire fraud."
Arthur Vance backed away two steps toward his car.
His legal arrogance completely disintegrated into sheer panic.
He looked at Margaret standing on the porch.
"You told me he didn't have cameras!"
Arthur yelled at my mother in pure terror.
"You lied to me, Margaret! I'm leaving!"
Arthur turned around, jumping back into his Mercedes.
He slammed the car door and accelerated away.
