Chapter 1 - The Foyer Nightmare

I walked through the heavy front oak door.

My leather briefcase felt heavy in my right hand.

The polished marble floor of the foyer gleamed.

Crystal chandeliers cast warm yellow light across room.

I froze completely dead in my tracks right there.

A cold wave of shock washed over my body.

My eight-month pregnant wife Emma knelt on marble.

She wore her simple cream cotton maternity dress today.

Her hands were dripping with soapy, tepid tap water.

She was washing my mother Margaret's bare feet.

A heavy metal basin rested on hard floor tiles.

My mother sat arrogantly in a carved wooden chair.

She wore an expensive, elegant peach satin dress.

Her face was twisted into pure, hateful, arrogant contempt.

She glared down at my exhausted, pregnant wife below.

"Wash harder... this house isn't yours!" Margaret.

Her cruel voice echoed off high foyer walls.

Emma lowered her head, tears dripping into water.

Her body trembled from sheer, overwhelming physical exhaustion.

She accidentally splashed a few drops onto peach satin.

Margaret's eyes flashed with sudden, explosive, vicious rage.

My mother suddenly thrust her right foot forward hard.

She kicked Emma forcefully straight in her side ribs.

Emma let out a sharp, painful, breathless shriek.

She doubled over on the cold, hard marble floor.

Her arms wrapped tightly around her round pregnant belly.

Seeing my helpless wife kicked unleashed pure, blinding fury.

I dropped my heavy leather briefcase onto floor.

I exploded forward across the polished foyer marble tiles.

I shoved my mother away with full physical force.

Margaret stumbled backward violently into metal water basin.

The basin tipped over with a loud metallic crash.

Soapy water splashed wildly across clean marble floor.

The peach satin dress soaked up dirty floor water.

"Don't touch my wife!" I roared out loud.

My voice shook the entire grand entrance hall space.

I dropped down onto both knees beside my wife.

I wrapped my left arm tightly around Emma's waist.

I carefully helped her sit upright against my chest.

I shielded her fragile body with my broad frame.

Her face was pale, covered in cold, nervous sweat.

"How long has this been happening?" I asked softly.

Emma lowered her crying eyes, fighting back fresh tears.

"I didn't want you caught between us..." Emma.

My heart broke into a thousand sharp bleeding pieces.

My own mother had been brutalizing my pregnant wife.

She treated my wife like a disgraced household servant.

And Emma had suffered in silence to protect me.

I stood up abruptly, my eyes burning with rage.

I grabbed two packed suitcases beside the grand staircase.

I pulled out my black mobile smartphone from pocket.

I unlocked the screen with my thumb print fast.

I turned the unseen phone screen toward my mother.

Margaret's smug, arrogant expression instantly disappeared completely today.

Her eyes widened in pure, unadulterated, rising panic.

She stared at the illuminated digital ledger lines displayed.

The numbers on the screen revealed her darkest crime.

A crime she thought was buried six feet under.

My hands held the phone steady as a rock.

"Your reign terror in this house ends right now."

I spoke every word with cold, lethal, uncompromising authority.

Margaret took a trembling step back into wet water.

Her expensive silk slippers were completely ruined by soap.

She tried to open her mouth to utter excuses.

No words came out of her dry, choking throat.
