Chapter 3 - The Stolen Estate Deed

Margaret's hands began shaking violently inside satin sleeves.

"You are bluffing! Your father left me everything!"

"Father left you a lifetime interest, Margaret," I.

"He left the actual real estate title to me."

"And he left the liquid trust to Emma's family."

Margaret took a sharp, breathless gasp of horror.

Twenty years ago, Emma's father was my father's partner.

They co-founded Brooks Manufacturing in Nashville, Tennessee.

When Emma's father passed away in an accident,

My father set up a ten-million-dollar trust fund.

A trust fund intended solely for Emma's future.

My mother Margaret was named as the trustee.

She was supposed to manage funds until Emma's marriage.

Instead, Margaret systematically embezzled every single dollar cash.

She transferred the ten million into offshore accounts.

She used the stolen money to buy custom jewels.

She funded her lavish country club lifestyle with it.

When I married Emma three years ago today,

Margaret panicked that Emma would request an audit.

So Margaret launched a campaign of psychological destruction.

She wanted to break Emma's spirit completely down.

She wanted Emma too terrified to hire lawyers.

She wanted Emma to feel worthless and small.

I tapped my phone screen, opening the audit file.

"The forensic accounting report finished two hours ago."

I stated, letting every word cut like steel.

"Every offshore transfer bears your personal digital signature."

"Ten million dollars stolen from my wife's trust."

"You are not a wealthy socialite, Mother."

"You are a white-collar thief facing federal prison."

Margaret stumbled back, clutching her pearl necklace tightly.

Her face turned as pale as fresh snow.

"Ethan... I am your mother!" she whimpered.

"You cannot do this to your own family!"

"You destroyed this family the moment you kicked her."

I snapped, grabbing the two heavy leather suitcases.

I took Emma's hand, lifting her off floor.

"We are leaving this house right now, Margaret."
