Chapter 2 - The Confession of Abuse

Emma clutched my navy suit pants with shaking fingers.

Her pale, sweaty forehead rested against my knee.

I knelt back down, stroking her blonde hair.

"Tell me everything she did to you, Emma."

My voice was a quiet, dangerous, trembling whisper.

Emma let out a long, ragged, shuddering sob.

"She took away my credit cards last week, Ethan."

"She locked the food pantry during the daytime hours."

"She said a poor girl deserves no luxury here."

"She forced me to clean toilets on my knees."

"She said if I told you, she'd ruin you."

My blood turned to liquid ice inside my veins.

My mother had systematically starved and humiliated my wife.

She used my family's corporate standing as a weapon.

She threatened to strip my executive VP position away.

She knew I loved my career at the firm.

She exploited Emma's deep love and protection for me.

Margaret recovered her composure slightly, smoothing her satin.

She pointed a wet, shaking finger at my face.

"She is a lying, manipulative gold-digger, Ethan!"

Margaret shrieked, her voice cracking with fake indignation.

"I gave her a home in this luxury mansion!"

"She is ungrateful and lazy beyond any belief!"

"I merely corrected her disrespectful behavior with my foot!"

I stood up slowly, towering over my mother.

My broad thirty-six-year-old shoulders squared with fury.

"You kicked an eight-month pregnant woman in ribs."

"You kicked your own unborn grandchild today, Margaret."

Margaret sneered, rolling her cold blue eyes arrogantly.

"That baby carries her dirty, low-class peasant blood!"

"I never wanted her in this family legacy!"

"This mansion belongs to the Brooks bloodline only!"

I let out a low, cold, terrifying chuckle.

I looked down at the puddle of soapy water.

"This house doesn't belong to you either, Margaret."

Margaret's arrogant grin froze completely on her face.

"What did you just say to me, Ethan?"

"You heard me clearly, Mother," I replied firmly.

"I hold the master deed to this entire estate."
