Vivian arrived at the hotel with a silver gift box.
Inside was no wedding present.
It contained a “family reconciliation agreement.”
The first pages promised to end disputes over the fire settlement.
The final pages released Vivian and Clara from liability for forged loans and confirmed that Elena had knowingly approved the hotel inspection.
Vivian planned to present it after champagne.
She told Clara that Elena would sign because she hated public conflict.
“If she refuses, we remind her how fortunate she is that any man married her.”
Clara laughed.
Several relatives joined them.
They had spent years repeating Vivian’s version of the fire.
Elena was reckless.
Elena caused trouble.

She nearly left.
Then Daniel reached for the microphone.

The staff and contract records.
Samuel placed the black folder on Vivian’s table.
The first loan showed $600,000 borrowed against Elena’s settlement trust.
The second used Elena’s recovery benefits to secure Hartwell debt.
The third transferred money to Clara’s design company for services never performed.
Vivian recovered quickly.
“These are private family matters.”
Samuel opened the wedding gift box.
“Then why did you bring a release for Elena to sign tonight?”
Guests saw the prepared agreement.
Clara looked toward the ballroom exit.
Two investigators stood beside the doors.

Daniel handed the microphone to Elena.
