Grace contacted the county recorder, the title company, and the bank financing the transaction.
She sent them the doorbell footage.
She sent proof that Donna was in the hospital.
She sent a sworn statement confirming Donna had never agreed to sell.
At 4:52 p.m., the closing was suspended.
Eight minutes later, the bank froze Rosegate’s construction loan.
Hattie’s plan had failed by less than ten minutes.
But the attempted transfer created a trail.
The documents had been prepared by a law office that frequently represented Rosegate.
The signature page showed Donna’s name.
The handwriting was not hers.
The dead notary’s seal appeared beneath it.
Penelope’s forged signature appeared as a witness.
Detective Ruiz obtained an emergency warrant.
Police searched Michael’s mansion office.
They found a printer loaded with specialty deed paper.
They found digital scans of Donna’s driver’s license.
They found several versions of Penelope’s signature.
Inside Hattie’s desk was a notebook containing dates, property values, and instructions.
One entry read:
P must remain in house until D signs.
Another said:
Use debt guarantee if emotional approach fails.
The letters referred to Penelope and Donna.
Hattie’s attorney argued that the notes were being misunderstood.
Then investigators recovered the envelope Donna had carried in her basket.
Hattie had hidden it beneath a cushion inside the foyer.
The envelope contained copies of the fraudulent loan agreement and Donna’s written denial.
Hattie had known Donna was preparing to expose them.
She chained her to learn where the original records were stored.
Michael and Hattie were formally charged.
Both were released on secured bond while the investigation continued.
They were prohibited from contacting Penelope or Donna.
Michael violated the order within six hours.
He sent Penelope an email from a secret account.
You know I never wanted this. My mother panicked. Come home, and I will fix everything.
Penelope read the message twice.
He did not apologize for grabbing her.
He did not mention Donna’s injuries.
He only wanted her back under his control.
Grace preserved the email and sent it to Ruiz.
The judge revoked Michael’s permission to enter the mansion and ordered him to wear an electronic monitor.
Hattie remained in the house.
From there, she began calling family members, employees, and reporters.
By morning, a new story was circulating.
Donna had trespassed.
Penelope was emotionally unstable.
The video had been edited.
Hattie was supposedly the true victim of a coordinated attempt to steal Rosegate Development.
Penelope’s phone filled with cruel messages from people she had once considered family.
