Chapter 11 - THE FOOTAGE ADRIAN DELETED
The security company restored the main estate footage under subpoena.
Adrian had deleted more than forty clips.
Each deletion created a timestamp.
The pattern matched Natalie’s collapses, the discovery of the pills, and Lucas’s hospital emergency.
One video showed Adrian entering Natalie’s dressing room carrying a small pharmacy bag.
He removed the tablets from his pocket and placed them inside her purse.
Margaret watched from the doorway.
“Six looks believable,” she said.
Adrian replied, “Enough to photograph. Not enough for the police to call it possession with intent.”
Natalie watched the clip beside Rachel.
Her body went cold.
She remembered apologizing to Adrian that night.
She had cried because she could not explain how the pills appeared.
He held her.
He told her they would face the problem together.
Another restored video showed Margaret standing in the kitchen with the bottle later fed to Lucas.
The camera angle did not reveal every movement.
The audio did.
Adrian: “The hospital has to find something.”
Margaret: “He is eleven days old.”
Adrian: “It will be trace-level.”
Margaret: “And if you’re wrong?”
Adrian: “Then we say Natalie fed him.”
The most damaging clip came from the library.
Adrian sat with Dr. Keller.
On the table was the false Silver Pine assessment.
Keller asked whether Natalie had any real history of addiction.
Adrian answered, “She has a history of trusting me.”
Rachel paused the video.
No one spoke for several seconds.
Natalie looked toward Lucas sleeping in the next room of the protected apartment.
She had spent weeks feeling ashamed that she failed to recognize her husband.
Now she understood that trust had been the quality Adrian selected because it made deception easier.
The footage was authenticated by the security company.
Copies went to the family court, police, medical licensing board, and Vale Capital’s audit committee.
Adrian’s lead custody attorney withdrew.
In his letter to the court, he stated that his client had withheld material facts.
Adrian hired another firm.
Margaret issued a public statement claiming the videos were manipulated.
The security company released a technical affidavit confirming the files came directly from encrypted backups.
Then Adrian called Natalie.
The protective order allowed only written communication about Lucas, but he used an unknown number.
“You are destroying everything our son will inherit.”
Natalie recorded the call.
“You almost destroyed our son to control what he inherited.”
Adrian’s voice dropped.
“You don’t understand what happens if Vale Capital falls.”
“Then let it fall.”
“You benefited from that name.”
“I survived what you did with it.”
He ended the call.
Minutes later, Natalie received a settlement offer.
Adrian would withdraw his addiction claims if she granted him shared custody, signed the trust-management agreement, and kept the footage confidential.
