A forensic document examiner compared Martha’s real signature with the power of attorney.
The differences were unmistakable.
The pressure pattern was wrong.
The letter spacing was inconsistent.
Several parts had been traced from an old insurance form.
Then investigators examined Brittany’s notary records.
She claimed Martha signed the document in her office at 2:30 on a Sunday afternoon.
Security records showed the office building was locked all day.
Phone-location data placed Brittany at Jessica’s apartment.
The digital file had been created on Jessica’s laptop.
The fake witness names belonged to two former coworkers who denied ever seeing Martha sign anything.
The judge invalidated the power of attorney.
He blocked the sale of Martha’s home.
He froze the fraudulent account and issued a protective order preventing Jessica and Brittany from contacting Martha or entering her property.
Then he referred the evidence to prosecutors.
Jessica began crying.
She turned toward Martha.
“Mom, I made mistakes, but you don’t want them to arrest me.”
For decades, those words would have worked.
Martha would have imagined Jessica alone in a cell.
She would have worried about Ava.
She would have blamed herself.
This time, Martha looked directly at her daughter.
“I didn’t forge the papers.”
“Please.”
“I didn’t steal Thomas’s savings.”
“You can stop this.”
“No, Jessica. You could have stopped it.”
Deputies approached the defense table.
Jessica’s panic became real.
She tried to blame Brittany.
Brittany immediately accused Jessica of planning everything.
Their voices rose until the judge ordered both women removed.
Martha watched her daughter being led away.
She did not smile.
Justice did not feel like revenge.
It felt like finally putting down a weight she had carried too long.
Outside the courtroom, Evelyn handed her an evidence receipt.
The sedan had been released to its legal owner.
