Chapter 12 - THE CAR COMES HOME
Jessica continued filming as an officer approached.
“This is harassment,” she announced to her viewers.
Brittany sat beside her, whispering instructions.
The officer asked Jessica to step out.
“My mother gave me this car.”
“Do you have a title in your name?”
“She pays for things because that’s what mothers do.”
Brittany touched her arm.
“Stop talking.”
But Jessica was angry.
“She has paid for everything my whole life. She’ll calm down and start paying again.”
The officer’s body camera captured every word.
So did Jessica’s livestream.
Comments began appearing across the screen.
Why is the title in your mom’s name?
Didn’t you leave her in the rain?
Why should a 68-year-old woman pay for your car?
Jessica’s confidence collapsed.
She ended the stream, but viewers had already saved it.
The sedan was impounded until ownership could be confirmed.
Inside the glove compartment, officers found copies of the forged power of attorney, the draft house listing and a brochure from Meadow Pines.
They also discovered a sealed envelope addressed to the facility’s admissions director.
The letter claimed Martha suffered from progressive memory loss and could no longer make responsible financial decisions.
It was signed by Jessica.
Attached to it was a deposit form authorizing $8,000 to be withdrawn from Martha’s fraudulent online account.
Jessica had not merely considered placing her mother in a facility.
She had already reserved the room.
The detective called Martha that evening.
“We have enough to request arrest warrants.”
Martha sat on the edge of her bed.
She had imagined feeling victorious.
Instead, she felt as though someone had hollowed out her chest.
Before the call ended, the detective mentioned one more document.
A form requesting that Jessica be added as the sole beneficiary of Martha’s life insurance policy.
Martha looked toward Thomas’s photograph.

Her daughter had prepared to take her car, her home, her savings and the last protection she intended to leave for Ava.
👉 Jessica’s plan was now exposed, but in court she would make one final attempt to convince everyone that Martha was mentally incompetent.
