Claire purchased a modest house near the hospital.
It had four bedrooms, a wide kitchen, and a backyard large enough for two children to run in opposite directions.
Alexander offered to buy a larger property.
Claire declined.
He accepted the answer.
She returned to work part-time before gradually expanding her role.
Her title was not heiress.
It was Chair of Patient Safety and Clinical Ethics.
She earned the position through the governance review, years of hospital experience, and the reforms she helped create.
Board members still disagreed with her.
That was healthy.
Claire had no interest in replacing Daniel’s control with her own.

Three years later, he proposed in Claire’s backyard while Mia searched for fireflies and Jack complained that the ring box interrupted dinner.
Claire laughed before saying yes.
