Chapter 5 - The Guard Who Left His Phone

The bodyguard’s name was Marco Bell.
He had protected Dominic for nine years.
Vincent had trusted him.
The messages on Marco’s phone showed that trust had been purchased.
Lorenzo promised Marco two million dollars and control of Dominic’s private security division.
His instructions were precise.
Separate Dominic from the loyal drivers.
Redirect the ambulance.
Deliver him to Hale.
Leave before the official declaration.
A second guard, Owen Price, had been part of the plan.
He was the man Cara saw backing away from the emergency-room window after Dominic breathed.
Security cameras showed Owen entering the stairwell.
He never appeared on another floor.
Vincent ordered every exit sealed.
Hospital administrator Merrick objected.
“You cannot imprison staff and visitors.”
Vincent held up the phone.
“There is an attempted murderer inside your hospital.”
Merrick looked toward Dr. Hale before answering.
That glance told Cara more than his words.
Dominic regained consciousness for several seconds.
His eyes searched the room until they found Vincent.
“Meeting,” he whispered.
“It’s being handled.”
“Lorenzo?”
“We have Marco’s phone.”
Dominic tried to sit up.
The monitor alarms increased.
Cara placed one hand against his shoulder.
“You cannot move.”
Dominic looked at her name badge.
“Cara.”
“Yes.”
“You heard it?”
“Your heartbeat.”
A weak smile touched his face.
“Everyone else heard what they wanted.”
His eyes closed again.
Vincent pulled Cara aside.
“We need to move him somewhere Hale cannot reach.”
“The intensive-care unit is controlled by the same hospital.”
“I have a private medical team coming.”
“They won’t arrive if the floor remains compromised.”
Cara suggested an unused cardiac observation wing under renovation.
It still had independent oxygen, backup power, and one secure entrance.
Only maintenance staff knew it was operational.
They moved Dominic under a sheet through a service corridor.
A loyal guard remained in the original room to make it appear occupied.
Minutes after the transfer, a man wearing hospital scrubs entered Bed Seven.
He carried a syringe.
The loyal guard stopped him.
The man ran.
Security captured him near the loading dock.
He was Owen Price.
Inside the syringe was enough medication to stop a weakened heart.
Owen refused to speak.
But his phone contained a photograph of Cara leaving work two nights earlier.
The traitors had not begun watching her after she saved Dominic.
May you like
They had been watching every person assigned to the emergency room before Dominic arrived.
👉 The betrayal had been planned down to the nurse on duty, yet Cara was never supposed to be the one who kept listening.
