Chapter 13 - The Lawyer Who Sold the Sunrise
Anthony Greco had worked beside Vincent for eighteen years.
He drafted Dominic’s business contracts.
Protected Sofia after kidnapping threats.
Helped negotiate the federal cooperation agreement.
No one had access to more secrets.
Anthony believed Dominic’s surrender would destroy the Russo family.
He also knew Lorenzo would need a legitimate lawyer after taking control.
Lorenzo promised him the role.
The video showed Anthony handing Hale a medical file containing Dominic’s health history.
He identified Dominic’s previous chest injury.
That information allowed Hale to design an apparent medical death.
Agent Brooks ordered Anthony’s arrest.
His apartment was empty.
His phone signal appeared inside the hospital parking garage.
He had never left.
Vincent received a call from Anthony.
“You always chose Dominic over the firm.”
Vincent’s voice shook with fury.
“You helped murder a client.”
“I helped preserve everything he planned to throw away.”
“Where are you?”
“Close enough to watch Lorenzo become what Dominic was too weak to remain.”
Anthony warned that the 5:00 a.m. transfer meeting had already begun through secure video.
Lorenzo was presenting Dominic’s death certificate.
The document carried Hale’s signature and Merrick’s hospital seal.
Even if Dominic appeared alive later, Lorenzo could claim temporary control had passed legally at five.
The legal businesses could be emptied within minutes.
Brooks contacted the federal judge overseeing the cooperation agreement.
They needed evidence presented before the transfer vote concluded.
Dominic could not appear physically.
But the observation room contained a secure video system.
Cara opposed placing him on camera.
Sofia agreed with Vincent.
“If Lorenzo wins now, he gains access to every employee and witness.”
Dominic squeezed Cara’s hand.
His eyes moved toward the tablet.
He could not speak.
Cara understood.
“You want to appear.”
He blinked once.
She checked his vital signs.
“Two minutes. No more.”
The secure call connected to the private club.
Lorenzo stood at the head of a long table.
A portrait of the late Russo patriarch hung behind him.
Senior members sat on both sides.
Anthony’s empty chair remained near the screen.
Lorenzo held the false death certificate.
“At 2:28 this morning, Dominic Russo died.”
Vincent activated the hospital camera.
Dominic’s living face appeared on the screen.
The room at the club became silent.
Lorenzo dropped the document.
Dominic lifted two fingers weakly.
Then Agent Brooks played Hale’s confession.
Lorenzo looked toward the exits.
Federal agents entered the club from every door.
Before they reached him, he grabbed a phone and sent one final message.
Cara saw the alert appear on Marco’s confiscated device.
