Dominic remained hospitalized for twelve days.
Cara was removed from his direct care after becoming a central witness.
She visited only when the medical team allowed it.
On the fourth day, Dominic asked Vincent to destroy the federal cooperation agreement.
Sofia stood from her chair.
“You promised.”
“I nearly died because of that agreement.”
“No. You nearly died because you spent years teaching people that power changes through violence.”
Dominic looked toward the window.
Sofia continued.
“If you return to the old rules, Lorenzo wins even from prison.”
Vincent agreed.
The organization was leaderless.
Some members wanted Dominic restored immediately.
Others prepared to divide the businesses.
Federal authorities could seize everything if Dominic withdrew.
Thousands of legitimate employees would lose jobs.
Victims would lose restitution.
Witnesses would remain in danger.
Dominic asked Cara what she thought.
She almost refused to answer.
“This is not a medical question.”

Cara stood near the door.
“I saved you because you were alive. Not because I approved of your life.”
Dominic nodded.
“If you use that life to rebuild the same thing, then the heartbeat I heard changes nothing.”
The words stayed with him.

He surrendered control of every legal business to an independent board.
Sofia became one member, but not the sole owner.
Employees received protected shares.
Illegal assets were transferred to federal custody.
A restitution fund was created for families harmed by Russo operations.
Dominic recorded a statement accepting responsibility.
He did not call himself innocent.
He did not claim Lorenzo had corrupted a noble organization.
He admitted that he had created the structure Lorenzo tried to inherit.
The news spread across Chicago.

Cara watched the report from the nurses’ lounge.

Security footage contradicted it.

Several executives tried to place Cara on administrative leave for violating protocol.
