Chapter 6 - THE ACCUSATION

“I didn’t take it.”

Emily stood in the center of the main hall.

Richard held the Rolex in his hand.

“Then explain why it was in your suitcase.”

“I can’t.”

Victoria stood beside him.

“I warned you that her attachment was becoming unhealthy.”

Emily looked at Richard.

“Check the cameras.”

“The camera outside your room was disabled.”

“I didn’t disable it.”

Victoria shook her head sadly.

“This is humiliating enough. Don’t make it worse.”

The boys watched from the upper staircase.

Ethan’s hands gripped the railing.

Richard ordered them back to the nursery.

Emily saw Victoria look up at them.

It was only a second.

But Ethan understood the warning.

Richard’s anger came from more than the watch.

He felt foolish.

He had allowed a staff member access to his children, bedroom wing, and private family spaces.

Now Victoria was making him believe that kindness had been exploited.

“I trusted you,” he said.

Emily’s voice broke.

“I protected your children while you were gone.”

“That does not give you permission to steal from my family.”

“I didn’t.”

“Enough.”

He told security to escort her out.

Marcus hesitated.

“Sir, I’d like time to examine the backup system.”

Richard turned on him.

“The watch was inside her luggage.”

Victoria placed a comforting hand on Richard’s arm.

“The police will turn this into a scandal. Let her leave quietly.”

Emily understood why.

A police investigation would require evidence.

Victoria wanted humiliation, not scrutiny.

Emily returned to her room under supervision.

Her clothes had already been packed.

Several items were missing, including her documentation of Victoria’s behavior.

As she pulled the suitcase down the stairs, Noah ran toward her.

Victoria caught him.

“You stay here.”

“Let him go,” Emily said.

“You are no longer permitted near the children.”

Richard stood beside the front door.

His expression remained hard, but Emily saw uncertainty beneath it.

She could have begged.

Instead, she removed her house keys and placed them on the entry table.

“One day, they will ask why you didn’t listen.”

Richard opened the door.

Emily walked outside.

Behind her, the boys began screaming.

Victoria ordered a guard to take them upstairs.

Ethan fought free.

He ran into Emily’s room, opened the suitcase, and found the Rolex where Victoria had hidden it.

He seized the watch.

Then he took the black flash drive from the toy chest.

“Follow me!” he shouted to his brothers.

The three boys ran through the gates barefoot.

Richard followed them.

And the carefully controlled accusation collapsed in the middle of the street.

👉 Ethan had saved Emily from leaving with the false evidence—but the flash drive in his other hand could expose what Victoria had done before Emily ever entered the mansion.
