Chapter 8 - EMERGENCY ROOM THREE

By the time Raymond reached the hospital, Rebecca had contacted police.
She gave them Ava’s location from the pendant’s emergency signal.
She also sent the earlier recordings and photographs of the false guardianship petition.
Police did not enter the examination room immediately.
Dr. Park needed the opportunity to separate Ava from the adults controlling her.
Hospital staff followed a protocol for suspected child abuse.
Raymond and Marissa were asked to remain behind the marked line near the doorway.
Dr. Park examined Ava privately.
She found bruises in different stages of healing.
A sprained wrist.
A shoulder injury.
Tenderness along her ribs.
The wet clothing did not match the mother’s story.
A person who slipped in a bathtub would not normally arrive fully dressed, soaked from head to toe, with bruises shaped like gripping fingers.
Dr. Park lowered her voice.
“Is Raymond hurting you?”
Ava’s eyes moved toward the curtain.
“He’ll hear.”
“He cannot come in unless I allow him.”
“My mother will tell him.”
“Your mother is not in this room.”
Ava started crying.
Dr. Park did not touch her until she asked permission.
“Did you slip?”
Ava pulled out the necklace.
“No.”
That single answer changed everything.
The hospital initiated a child-protection hold.
No adult could remove Ava without clearance.
Police entered the hallway.
Raymond attempted to push past security.
The camera recorded him.
“You are keeping a minor from her legal guardian!”
“I am her guardian,” Marissa said.
Officer Lena Ortiz looked at her.
“Then you will remain available for separate questioning.”
Marissa’s face lost color.
Dr. Park played the first file from the pendant.
Raymond ordering Ava to lie.
Raymond threatening the trust.
Raymond describing the false petition.
Then came the bathroom recording.
The struggle.
The water.
Marissa saying there were too many bruises.
Raymond answering that crying mothers were believable.
Officer Ortiz looked toward both adults.
“Raymond Cole, place your hands behind your back.”
He laughed once.
“This is a manipulated recording made by an unstable girl.”
Rebecca entered the hallway.
She carried authenticated copies of the previous files.
“The uploads came directly from the device’s encrypted server.”
Raymond stared at her.
“You gave her that.”
“I gave her a way to survive you.”
Marissa began shaking.
Raymond turned on her.
“Do not say anything.”
Officer Ortiz moved between them.
“You no longer get to instruct either of them.”
Raymond was arrested for aggravated assault, unlawful restraint, witness intimidation, and child abuse.
Marissa was not arrested immediately.
But CPS separated her from Ava.
Dr. Park placed the pendant in an evidence bag after downloading the files.
Ava watched through the glass as Raymond was led away.
He turned back.
“You’re destroying your father’s company!”
Ava’s voice was weak.
“No. I’m taking it back.”

👉 Raymond was finally in custody—but his false records still existed, and a court hearing scheduled for the next morning could legally delay Ava’s inheritance.
