Chapter 10 - THE LEAK INSIDE THE TASK FORCE
The agents immediately collected every phone.
No one was permitted to leave the preserve.
Dominic remained on the line.
“Come home, Clara.”
“You don’t have a home anymore.”
“You think your mother can protect you because she found a box in the woods?”
Clara glanced at Victoria.
Dominic knew exactly what they had recovered.
“What do you want?”
“The original trust authorization and a statement saying your injuries came from falling in the storm.”
“You threw me outside.”
“You were hysterical.”
“You hit me.”
“Prove it.”
Clara looked at the recorder inside the evidence bag.
“I already did.”
Dominic became silent.
Then he changed tactics.
“I’m your daughter’s father.”
“You stopped being her father when you struck the body carrying her.”
His voice hardened.
“Meet me, or Pike disappears with the only witness who can explain your father’s accident.”
The call ended.
Investigators traced the signal to the private airfield.
The task-force commander ordered teams to move.
Before they left, a technician identified the leak.
The sealed operation map had been accessed from a federal account belonging to Deputy Marshal Aaron Coyle.
Coyle had worked beside Victoria for six months.
He had stood inside her home on the night Clara arrived.
He had watched Dominic approach through the rain.
Agents found thirty thousand dollars in cash inside his vehicle.
Coyle confessed after being confronted.
Dominic had promised to pay his son’s medical debts.
In exchange, Coyle provided location updates and warned him about surveillance.
The betrayal shook Victoria.
Dominic had not purchased only local police.
He had reached inside the federal team.
Coyle revealed that Dominic knew about the well because a hidden tracking device had been placed beneath Victoria’s SUV.
The team found it near the rear axle.
Clara realized Dominic had not called because he controlled the situation.
He called because he was frightened.
The evidence from the well could connect his family to environmental crimes and Thomas’s death.
Pike was the bridge between both cases.
At the airfield, a federal tactical team blocked the runway.
Pike’s suitcases contained cash, passports, and original police evidence files.
But Dominic was not there.
His vehicle had changed direction ten minutes earlier.

It was now traveling toward the hospital where Clara’s medical records and unborn daughter’s files were stored.
👉 Dominic had failed to escape, so he was going after the records he intended to use to portray Clara as an unfit mother.
