Chapter 16 - The Clause Edward Never Explained
Damian’s panic turned into arrogance.
He straightened his shirt and faced the investors.
“You’re all watching edited footage created by a frightened woman who doesn’t understand her own company.”
Victoria felt the old pressure closing around her.
For months, he had trained people to doubt her.
Now he was using the same strategy in public.
Elias stepped onto the stage holding Edward’s original trust documents.
“The recording is encrypted, time-stamped and stored on three independent servers,” he said. “But the authenticity of the video is not Mr. Cross’s greatest problem.”
Damian’s confidence weakened.
Elias opened the trust.
“Edward Vale anticipated an attempt to obtain Victoria’s shares through coercion, medical manipulation or fraudulent guardianship.”
Serena stared at him.
“That isn’t in the will.”
“No,” Elias said. “It is in the controlling-share trust.”
He turned toward Victoria.
Her father had created a protective clause shortly before his death.
If anyone attempted to force Victoria to surrender control while she was pregnant, incapacitated or under unlawful pressure, her shares would automatically move into an irrevocable family trust.
The beneficiary was Victoria’s child.
Victoria remained the trust protector and voting representative.
Damian could not take the company.
Serena could not take the company.
Not even Victoria could accidentally sign it away under coercion.
The forged transfer was legally worthless.
Damian’s face emptied.
“When was that activated?”
“The moment Victoria used her protected signature,” Elias answered.
Victoria finally understood why her father had taught her three signature variations as a teenager.
One for ordinary documents.
One for emergencies.
One to signal coercion.
Her father had protected her before she even knew she needed protection.
Elias faced the room.
“There is more. Any person participating in such an attempt immediately loses every financial benefit granted through Edward Vale’s estate.”
Serena stopped crying.
Her widow’s allowance, access to Vale House and ceremonial board position had just been terminated.
The mansion beneath her knees no longer belonged to her.
