Chapter 7 - The Plan Behind the Nursery Door

The next morning, Maya met her obstetrician alone for the first time in months.
Alex had arranged for Richard to be delayed by a minor traffic stop.
Maya showed the doctor the bruises around her wrist.
She explained that Trent controlled her money, her transportation and nearly every conversation she had.
Dr. Ellis did not question her.
She documented everything.
Then she quietly contacted a hospital social worker and gave Maya the number of a domestic violence attorney.
“You and your baby are not safe in that home,” she said.
“I’m leaving tomorrow.”
“Leave today.”
Maya wanted to.
But Trent kept the original trust documents inside a biometric safe.
Without proof of the forged signatures, he could claim Maya had authorized the transfers.
Alex had enough to start an investigation, but not enough to prevent Trent from moving the remaining company funds overseas.
Maya needed one final set of files.
Alex did not like the plan.
“I’ll have people outside the building tonight,” he said.
“If anything changes, press the SOS button. Do not wait.”
That afternoon, Maya entered the nursery and found Celeste removing baby clothes from the closet.
“What are you doing?”
“Making space.”
“For what?”
Celeste pointed toward several packed suitcases.
“For the things you’ll need after the birth.”
The clothes inside were not Maya’s.
They belonged to Celeste.
“You’re moving into the nursery?”
“Someone responsible will have to care for the baby.”
Maya felt something inside her harden.
That evening, Trent entered the dining room carrying a thick legal folder.
His parents sat beside him.
On the table were three glasses of wine and one glass of water.
Trent placed a pen beside Maya’s plate.
“We’re settling the company matter tonight.”
Maya opened the folder.
It was an irrevocable transfer of voting control.
If she signed, Trent would control Carter Sentinel.
If she refused, the final paragraph allowed him to petition for emergency guardianship using reports from a doctor Maya had never met.
Maya looked up.

Trent locked the dining room door.
👉 The extraction was planned for morning—but Trent had decided Maya would not survive the night with control of her company intact.
