Zurich did not feel like Mark.
That surprised Claire.
The city contained lakes, trains, hospitals, families, and ordinary lives that had nothing to do with his plan.
The seized apartment had already been sold.
Helvetia Medical Aviation no longer existed.
The mailbox registered as its office had been removed.
Claire visited the children’s hospital with the transported patient and medical crew.
The surgery succeeded.
The girl’s parents thanked Warren AeroMed.
Claire redirected their gratitude toward the pilots, nurses, coordinators, and hospital staff.
The company was no longer going to build stories around one heroic executive.
During the visit, Swiss investigators returned the final recovered item from Vanessa’s black suitcase.

Claire held it inside a small case.

“I already have what it was supposed to represent,” Claire said.
“What was that?”
“My mother loved me. Mark couldn’t steal that by giving away the jewelry.”
The bracelet sold for far more than its appraised value after an anonymous bidder learned its history.
Claire required the charity to omit her name from the campaign.
She did not want betrayal becoming marketing.
The proceeds funded dozens of flights.
Back in Chicago, Mark filed another appeal.
He claimed Vanessa’s testimony was unreliable.
The court rejected it because the convictions rested on extensive independent evidence.
Claire no longer read the filings herself.
Maya handled necessary notices.
Mark’s refusal to accept responsibility did not require Claire’s emotional participation.
Vanessa sent one letter from prison.
She apologized for the affair and fraud.
She also wrote that Mark had manipulated her.
Claire did not respond.
Manipulation could be true.
Vanessa’s choices remained her responsibility.
Forgiveness was not a service Claire owed because another woman finally understood the man they had both trusted.
Claire returned from Zurich without panic.
At O’Hare, she walked past the old farewell location carrying one small suitcase.
