Claire hesitating.

He did not describe himself as the hero of the driveway.
“Jonah arrived first. Mrs. Alvarez wrapped Lily in a blanket. Police and paramedics helped her.”
The prosecutor asked why he emphasized that.
“Because Meredith’s entire plan depended on teaching my daughter that only one person might save her—and that he was too far away. Children should know safety can come from many trusted adults.”
Claire testified under a cooperation agreement.

Profiting.
Lying to the court.
Her attorney tried to emphasize Meredith’s threats.
Claire stopped him.
“My mother pressured me. I still held the phone.”
Meredith stared at her with hatred.

Claire answered, “I may never regain custody. Telling the truth is still my responsibility.”
The jury watched Lily’s recorded interview rather than requiring her to appear in court.
She said only what she remembered.
“It was cold. They wanted me to say Daddy didn’t come. Then Uncle Jonah came.”
