Chapter 13 - THE RECORDING INSIDE THE RED DRESS
The penthouse cameras recorded the dinner.
The audio was clearer than anyone expected.
It captured Valeria insulting Renata.
It captured the first slap.
It captured Renata’s response.
It also captured a conversation before the guests arrived.
Valeria and Thomas Kessler stood near the windows.
Kessler asked, “Will Rodrigo sign tonight?”
“He always signs when he feels admired.”
“And his wife?”
“She’ll sit quietly.”
“She chairs the trust.”
“Only on paper. Rodrigo says she hates public conflict.”
Kessler lowered his voice.
“If she freezes the money, we trigger default.”
Valeria replied, “That’s why the asset agreement is already inside his folder.”
“And if he reads it?”
“He won’t.”
The recording proved Valeria expected Rodrigo’s negligence.
It did not prove he knew about the takeover.
Then another voice entered the frame.
Rodrigo.
“What are you discussing?”
Valeria answered, “Final investor protections.”
Kessler asked him directly, “You understand Mercer Ridge receives immediate purchase rights if the bridge fails?”
Rodrigo paused.
“How immediate?”
“Forty-eight hours.”
Valeria interrupted.
“It won’t happen. Renata will approve the money.”
Rodrigo said something that ended his defense.
“She always comes through after she finishes proving she’s smarter than everyone.”
Renata stopped the video.
The insult hurt more than she expected.
Rodrigo had built his plan on her loyalty.
He assumed that no matter how he lied, cheated, or humiliated her, she would protect him from consequences.
Daniel asked whether she wanted a break.
“No.”
They continued.
Rodrigo told Kessler to keep the asset-sale clause out of the investor presentation.
He knew it existed.
He simply believed it would never activate because Renata would save him.
At the emergency board hearing, Rodrigo tried to explain.
“I never wanted Mercer Ridge to take the company.”
“You concealed the clause,” an independent director said.
“I believed the trust would close.”
“Because your wife chaired it?”
“Yes.”
The director looked toward Renata.
“So you used her fiduciary position as a private guarantee while denying her authority publicly.”
Rodrigo had no answer.
The board voted unanimously to remove him as chief executive pending investigation.
Renata was appointed restructuring chair.
Rodrigo looked across the table at her.
“Please don’t let them destroy what my father built.”
Renata answered quietly.

👉 Rodrigo had lost his title, but the board still did not know Valeria had hidden another agreement that could destroy the company even after her arrest.
