Chapter 8 - The Glass She Did Not Finish

Dinner was unusually peaceful.

Vivian served Emily herself.

Charles spoke about harmless family memories.

Grant apologized for the psychiatric appointment.

“I panicked,” he said. “I thought I was losing you.”

“You were trying to control my trust.”

“I was trying to protect the company.”

Emily watched Vivian pour water into her glass.

A small white residue clung to the inside of the pitcher.

Emily lifted the glass but did not drink.

Grant noticed.

“Is something wrong?”

“I’m not thirsty.”

Vivian smiled.

“You barely ate.”

“I had lunch late.”

Under the table, Emily activated the backup recording system from her phone.

The study camera came online.

The hallway camera followed.

She needed to reach the trust documents stored inside Charles’s office.

After dinner, Emily pretended to become tired.

She carried the glass upstairs.

Inside the bedroom, she poured part of the water into a clean cosmetic container.

Then she locked it inside her suitcase.

Grant entered without knocking.

“You didn’t drink.”

“I told you I wasn’t thirsty.”

He took the glass.

Emily watched his expression.

Not disappointment.

Concern that the plan had failed.

“Mother added a sleep supplement,” he said.

“To my water?”

“You haven’t rested.”

“Without asking me?”

“It’s herbal.”

“Then drink it.”

Grant’s face changed.

He placed the glass down.

“You are making everyone afraid of you.”

Emily moved toward the door.

He blocked it.

“I need air.”

“We need to finish the paperwork first.”

“No.”

He reached for her phone.

Emily pulled away.

Grant grabbed her shoulders and forced her onto the bed.

She screamed.

Vivian entered carrying the documents.

Charles closed the hallway door.

No one looked surprised.

The confrontation had been planned.

Vivian placed the power of attorney on the nightstand.

“You can sign calmly, or we can document another episode.”

Emily stared at her husband.

“You knew she drugged the water.”

Grant looked away.

That was the answer.

Emily fought past him and reached the hallway.

Charles caught her near the stairs.

Grant took her phone.

Vivian ordered the staff to leave the property for the night.

The mansion gates locked.

Emily was moved into a guest room without exterior windows.

Grant called it a place to calm down.

Vivian called it necessary.

Emily called it what it was.

May you like

Imprisonment.

👉 The sedative failed to enter Emily’s body, so Grant decided fear and physical force would have to accomplish what the drug was meant to do.
