Helen obtained the document through a contact at the Mercer family’s law firm.
It was not the limited power of attorney Grant had shown Emily.
The hidden version granted him broad authority over trust assets, medical decisions and residential placement.
A supporting letter from the private psychiatrist described Emily as suffering from severe episodes that impaired financial judgment.
The doctor had not completed a legitimate evaluation.
Vivian had supplied most of the information.
Charles planned to submit the documents to an emergency court if Emily continued refusing the loan guarantee.
Grant would ask to become temporary representative.
Vivian would testify that Emily had become unsafe.
Household staff were being pressured to sign statements.
One claimed Emily forgot meals.
Another said she shouted without reason.
Neither statement included the arguments that came first.
Helen arranged an independent medical and cognitive evaluation.
Emily attended secretly.
The specialist found no impairment.
She showed symptoms of stress and fear consistent with coercive control.
The report was stored securely.
Helen also requested a forensic review of Mercer Properties.
The auditors uncovered shell invoices paid to a company controlled by Vivian.
Millions intended for the oceanfront project had purchased jewelry, private travel and renovations to Charles and Vivian’s second home.
The new loan was not needed only for construction.
It was needed to cover theft before the rescue fund’s audit.
Grant had approved several payments.
He knew.
Emily sat in Helen’s office holding the report.
“He wants my trust to hide what they stole.”
“Yes.”
“If I refuse, they declare me incompetent.”
“Yes.”
“And if I sign?”
“The trust becomes exposed. Grant may also argue that your signature proves you approved earlier Mercer transactions.”
Emily understood the trap.
They intended to make her responsible for the fraud.
Helen wanted immediate injunctions.
Emily asked for twenty-four hours.
“Why?”
“The original transfer authorization is inside the house. It contains Vivian’s handwritten instructions.”
“The auditors have copies.”
“Copies Grant will call drafts.”
“You do not need perfect evidence to deserve safety.”
Emily looked down.
“I know.”
But she wanted the original documents and the hidden household camera footage.
Grant had ordered some cameras removed.
He did not know Emily’s mother had installed an independent backup system after a burglary years earlier.
Emily still possessed the access code.
She returned to the mansion.
Vivian greeted her warmly.
Grant kissed her cheek.
