The guests remained in the garden while police separated witnesses.
No one knew whether to leave.
The wedding cake melted slowly beneath the afternoon heat.
Claire sat inside Arthur’s library with Rachel.

Claire looked toward the garden where staff were removing chairs.
“What happens to the guests?”
“They go home.”
“And the wedding?”
“It becomes evidence.”
That night, Claire slept in a secure guest room with two officers outside.
She woke hearing Arthur’s final recording.
