Chapter 11 - THE COURTROOM TIMELINE
After Evelyn revealed the scars, Judge Cole ordered a brief recess.
Daniel’s attorney demanded that the exhibits be excluded.
“These allegations were not properly noticed.”
Evelyn opened her filing receipt.
“Exhibit categories were served nine days ago. Defense acknowledged them electronically.”
The judge looked toward counsel.
He checked his tablet.
The receipt was there.
Lauren whispered something to Daniel.
He glared at her.
Judge Cole resumed the hearing.
Evelyn authenticated the first photograph.
“March 14. Bruise to my upper arm after I questioned a payment to Vale Strategic Advisory.”
The next.
“June 11. Laceration requiring fourteen stitches after I refused the Blue Harbor guarantee.”
The next.
“September 4. Dislocated shoulder after I questioned Lauren’s company email access.”
Then February 22.
“Two fractured ribs. The night my grandmother’s ring disappeared.”
Daniel’s attorney objected to relevance.
Evelyn faced the judge.
“Each date corresponds to a transaction requiring my consent, signature, or silence.”
Judge Cole allowed the timeline provisionally.
Evelyn presented hospital records and metadata showing the photographs had not been altered.
Then came the voicemails.
Daniel’s voice filled the courtroom.
You’ll sign because no one believes women who stay.
Another recording:
Show those pictures and I’ll say you did it to yourself.
Lauren’s face tightened.
Daniel looked toward his attorney.
The lawyer had not heard those recordings.
Evelyn inserted the encrypted drive.
The court clerk verified its hash value against the pre-filed evidence notice.
Agent Maya quietly left the gallery.
The warrant authentication was complete.
Evelyn then introduced the offshore statement.
Daniel’s lawyer argued it was a corporate matter outside divorce jurisdiction.
Judge Cole agreed partly.
She could not decide federal fraud charges.
She could decide whether assets needed immediate preservation.
Evelyn showed Blue Harbor transfers into properties Daniel had omitted from his disclosures.
The judge froze the accounts pending investigation.
Daniel stood.
“This is outrageous.”
The bailiff moved toward him.
Judge Cole’s voice became sharp.
“Sit down, Mr. Reed.”
He obeyed.
Then Evelyn introduced Lauren’s approval emails.
One contained a message sent twenty minutes after Evelyn’s hospital admission for fractured ribs.
Lauren wrote:
Did she give you the drive?
Daniel answered:
Not yet. I took the ring. She won’t go anywhere tonight.
The courtroom became completely still.
Lauren covered the diamond with her other hand.
Evelyn looked at the judge.
