Rachel purchased it as an employee retreat center.

Rachel breathed until the panic eased.
Healing did not arrive because the locks changed.
It arrived slowly, often after fear convinced her nothing had changed.
She began trauma therapy.

She stopped calling the abuse “the incident.”

Meanwhile, Derek’s legal strategy became more aggressive.
He claimed Rachel had secretly recorded private marital conversations and edited the footage.

He claimed she drugged herself to frame Marlene.
Kitchen videos showed Marlene crushing pills.
He claimed the lake retreat was romantic.
The loosened railing and planted evidence said otherwise.
Finally, Derek claimed Rachel had abused him financially by controlling company access.
The prosecution responded with six years of salary, bonuses, luxury expenses, and stolen funds.
Derek had not lacked money.
He lacked ownership.
That difference had consumed him.
Then Elena received a letter from Derek.
