Chapter 8 - The Moment the Board Saw Everything

Maya watched Daniel drag Grace across the carpet in real time.

She had expected threats.

She had prepared for coercion.

She had not expected the speed with which Daniel became violent once the witnesses questioned him.

Maya called emergency services first.

Then she activated the Blackwood Stewardship Trust’s pension-protection provision.

Certified notices went to the board chair, the company’s transfer agent, and every bank holding Blackwood funds.

Grace’s special founder’s share immediately carried fifty-one percent voting control until an independent investigation concluded.

Daniel’s authority was suspended.

North Vale’s pending acquisition was blocked.

The pension accounts were frozen before another dollar could move.

Maya sent the livestream clip to the emergency judge.

The judge signed a temporary protective order and an evidence-preservation order.

No Mercer family member could access company records, the pension fund, or the Blackwood house.

Inside the dining room, Daniel pulled Grace toward the door.

Margaret continued drinking until her bank application stopped working.

Richard’s face changed when a fraud-investigation alert appeared.

“What did you do?” he asked Daniel.

Daniel released Grace and grabbed his phone.

Emails arrived faster than he could open them.

SUSPENSION.

ACCOUNT FREEZE.

BOARD LOCKOUT.

LITIGATION HOLD.

Margaret stood.

“This is your company. Stop them.”

Daniel looked toward Grace’s phone.

The red recording indicator was visible.

He kicked it away.

The phone slid beneath the Christmas tree but continued streaming.

One of the bankers stepped back.

“You told us Grace had approved the acquisition.”

“She did.”

Grace pushed herself upright.

“No, I didn’t.”

The banker turned toward the other directors.

“We are leaving.”

Daniel blocked the dining-room exit.

“No one leaves until this is resolved.”

That sentence was captured too.

The front door opened.

Two private security officers entered with Maya.

Police arrived seconds later.

Daniel raised his hands and immediately changed his tone.

“My wife is having an episode.”

Maya pointed toward the food and broken dishes on the floor.

“Her episode dragged her by the hair?”

Margaret said Grace had attacked Daniel first.

One of the invited directors spoke.

“That is not what happened.”

Richard sat down heavily.

He looked as though he had aged ten years during dinner.

The police separated everyone.

Grace showed the officer the redness around her scalp and neck.

Paramedics examined her.

Daniel watched Maya retrieve the phone from beneath the tree.

“You planned this,” he said.

Maya answered, “We documented what you chose.”

Officers escorted Daniel from the house.

Margaret followed while shouting that the property belonged to her son.

The protective order stated otherwise.

Richard remained at the table.

Before police led him out, he looked at Grace.

“I told him it would go too far.”

Grace met his eyes.

May you like

“You still signed.”

👉 Richard’s fear was not innocence—the pension records carried his authorization on every stolen transfer.
