Chapter 8 - The Missing Woman Behind The Lies

Ethan wanted to leave.

I stopped him.

“Where are you going?”

“To find my mother.”

I stepped in front of him.

“And what happens when you leave this room?”

His eyes narrowed.

“What are you saying?”

“I’m saying someone has been controlling information for months.”

The words were hard.

But true.

Ethan was finally seeing the pattern.

Every secret.

Every missing message.

Every erased record.

Someone had been moving pieces around us.

The attorneys began contacting investigators.

Not police.

Not yet.

Because Ethan knew involving the wrong people could destroy evidence.

Victoria admitted something else.

She had found the first signs of manipulation three months earlier.

But she stayed quiet.

“Why?” I asked.

Her answer was simple.

“Because I was afraid.”

That surprised me.

Fear was something I understood.

Even powerful people could be trapped.

Then the boardroom television suddenly turned on.

Nobody touched the remote.

A video started playing.

A woman appeared.

Ethan’s mother.

She was sitting somewhere dark.

And she looked terrified.

“If you’re watching this,” she said, “it means they already know about Rose.”

Ethan stepped closer.

The video continued.

“There is something you need to know about Emma’s daughter.”

The screen went black.
