Chapter 4 - The Neighbor Who Stayed

Neighbor One was named Rachel.
She had lived across the street for six years.
She rarely involved herself in anyone else's business.
But she recognized abuse when she saw it.
Her own mother had survived it.
The moment Brandon struck me...
Rachel quietly pressed record on her phone while dialing 911.
She knew not to rush forward.
She knew injured people shouldn't be moved unnecessarily.
Neighbor Two, Melissa, reached me first.
She knelt beside me.
"Ma'am... can you hear me?"
I nodded.
"Don't move your neck."
Rachel never took her eyes off Brandon.
She calmly described everything to dispatch.
"Adult female assaulted."
"Victim conscious."
"Doorbell camera likely recorded the attack."
Those last six words changed everything.
Dispatch immediately upgraded the response.
Meanwhile...
inside the house...
Brandon and Alyssa argued.
Rachel couldn't hear every word.
Only one sentence.
May you like
"You said the camera wasn't recording."
👉 Brandon had disabled every indoor camera—but forgot the one camera required by his homeowner's insurance.
