Chapter 3 - The Insurance Folder

The folder I carried that afternoon wasn't random.
Three days earlier, my attorney discovered an error inside my late husband's insurance file.
An investment rider had never been activated.
Because of that oversight...
the policy had quietly grown for nearly twenty years.
Its value now exceeded three million dollars.
Only three people knew.
My attorney.
Me.
And someone who illegally accessed the insurance company's online portal.
The login came from Brandon's home internet connection.
The attorney warned me immediately.
"Don't sign anything."
"Don't transfer ownership."
"And don't visit them alone."
I ignored the last warning.
I believed my daughter deserved to hear the truth from me.
Instead...
Brandon answered the door.
His first words were:
"Did you bring it?"
Not:
"Hello."
Not:
"Come inside."
I realized he already knew.
Before I could answer...
the attack began.
The folder sliding across the porch wasn't an accident.

It was the reason I had been invited.
👉 Someone inside the insurance company had leaked confidential information to Brandon before I ever arrived.
