Chapter 6 - Camila’s Last Warning

Julián could barely listen.

But he did.

Camila’s voice shook through the small speaker.

“I found the transfer papers. Teresa wants the vineyard shares moved before the baby is born. Rodrigo said if I tell you, your mother will say I’m unstable.”

A pause.

A breath.

Then a muffled sound, as if she had turned away from a door.

“They don’t know I copied everything.”

Julián looked at Ana.

“Vineyard shares?”

Ana shook her head.

“I don’t know. Keep listening.”

Camila continued.

“The baby’s trust protects her inheritance if anything happens to me. Teresa lied about the old will. Your father changed it before he died.”

Julián felt ice move through him.

His father, Andrés Vargas, had owned a majority stake in the family vineyard outside Mendoza.

After his death, Teresa controlled the public face of the estate, but Julián held operational authority.

Camila, as Julián’s wife and mother of the unborn child, had legal protection tied to the next generation trust.

If the baby survived, Teresa’s control narrowed.

If Camila died quietly and Julián remained broken, Teresa could move fast.

Camila’s voice cracked.

“Rodrigo is not just helping her. He’s the one moving money through the export accounts.”

Julián looked at the hallway photo again.

Rodrigo.

The loyal cousin.

The man Teresa raised like a second son after his parents died.

The man who joked at family dinners and called Camila “too serious.”

The man missing a navy button.

The voicemail continued.

“I’m going to tell Julián tonight. If I can’t, check the blue folder in the nursery closet.”

Then there was another sound.

A door opening.

Camila whispered, “Someone’s coming.”

The audio ended.

Julián sat perfectly still.

Not because he felt calm.

Because the part of him that could move had gone numb.

Ana said, “I copied the file before administration locked me out.”

“Who else knows?”

“One nurse. She saw the fibers. She is scared.”

“She should be.”

Ana leaned forward.

“Julián, I need to ask you something. Did Camila have any condition that would explain physical trauma before delivery?”

His answer was immediate.

“No.”

“Did she fall?”

“No.”

“Was there an accident?”

“No.”

Ana’s face hardened.

“Then you need police before they move her body.”

Julián stood.

“They already tried.”

His phone buzzed.

Mateo.

Camila’s brother.

Julián answered.

Mateo’s voice was urgent.

“Teresa is trying to continue the burial without you.”

Julián closed his eyes.

Of course she was.

“She can’t.”

“She says you’re hysterical.”

Julián almost laughed.

The same weapon again.

Grief as incompetence.

Truth as instability.

He looked at Ana.

“Can you stop the burial legally?”

Ana shook her head.

“I can file a medical objection, but it must be reinforced by family.”

Julián looked at his wife’s note.

Then the button.

Then the evidence photos.

“I am family.”

Ana’s voice was quiet.

“So act before she disappears the body.”

👉 Teresa was trying to bury Camila before the truth could breathe, but Julián now had enough evidence to stop the funeral in front of everyone.
