Chapter 6 - You’re Nobody

Back in the ballroom, Vanessa stared at Lena like the past had crawled out of the floor.
“You’re nobody.”
The words landed in front of two hundred guests.
Old family friends.
Whitmore executives.
Hotel staff.
Vanessa’s parents.
Grant.
The police.
Everyone heard.
Lena almost smiled.
Not because it was funny.
Because some people repeat old spells even after the magic stops working.
For years, that sentence would have ruined her.
You’re nobody.
Nobody would believe you.
Nobody wants you here.
Nobody cares what happened.
But now Lena stood on marble flooring inside the most expensive hotel in the city with federal-style audit records in one hand and police officers holding her sister back.
She was not nobody.
She was the client Vanessa had used.
The witness she had erased.
The fraud she had underestimated.
Grant held the thick file open, reading the first page again.
His voice was low.
“Vanessa, why is Lena’s legacy client code on our wedding invoices?”
Vanessa’s face tightened.
“I don’t know what she gave you, but it’s fake.”
Lena looked at Grant.
“Page four.”
He turned it.
His jaw clenched.
There was Vanessa’s email.
Use L.H. legacy reference only on back-end cost adjustments. Do not copy Grant.
Grant looked at Vanessa slowly.
Vanessa stopped breathing.
Her mother Elaine moved forward from behind the table.
“This is a misunderstanding.”
Lena turned to her.
“Like Grandma Rose’s care account?”
Elaine froze.
Richard stood too fast, knocking his chair back.
“Lena, don’t do this here.”
Lena’s eyes moved to him.
“You threw me out with a suitcase and sixty-three dollars. You don’t get to choose where the truth stands.”
Guests began whispering.
Grant looked from Lena to Richard.
“What happened to your grandmother’s care account?”
Vanessa snapped, “Grant, stop listening to her.”
One officer tightened his grip when she tried to step forward again.
Lena lifted one page from the thin envelope Vanessa had torn.
“The same forged signatures used to frame me six years ago appear in the vendor authorizations for this wedding.”
Grant looked at Richard.
Richard’s face had gone gray.
Elaine whispered, “We didn’t know it would go this far.”
Lena’s chest tightened.
There it was.
Not denial.
Not surprise.
Damage control.
Vanessa whipped toward her mother.
“Shut up.”
The ballroom heard that too.
Grant stepped back from Vanessa as though physical distance could protect him from what he was learning.
“You told me your sister stole from your grandmother.”
Vanessa’s eyes filled instantly.
Lena knew those tears.
Old tools.
“Well, she did,” Vanessa said. “She always twisted everything. She was jealous of me. She came here to ruin my wedding because she has nothing.”
Lena looked down at the file.
Then back up.
“My company was hired by Whitmore legal before your wedding date was finalized.”
Grant’s head turned sharply.
Vanessa looked confused for the first time.
Lena continued.
“I didn’t come here because I wanted your life. I came because you put my name on your theft again.”
May you like
That sentence finally cracked the room open.
👉 Vanessa tried to make Lena look jealous, but the hotel records proved Vanessa had used Lena’s identity to steal from Grant’s company.
