Chapter 5 - The Wedding Paid for by Lies

Vanessa’s wedding was not just a wedding.

It was a performance.

The ballroom was booked at Whitmore Grand Hotel, the flagship property Grant’s grandfather had once saved from collapse with Rose Hart’s help.

Vanessa insisted it was romantic.

Historic.

Symbolic.

She told Grant, “It feels like fate.”

In reality, it was strategic.

The wedding costs were enormous.

More enormous than Grant realized.

Flower invoices inflated by three hundred percent.

Vendor deposits routed through consulting partners.

Luxury suite charges assigned to corporate hospitality accounts.

Private security marked as “executive client retention.”

A rehearsal dinner billed through a shell event company.

And beneath several approvals was a strange internal note.

Legacy client courtesy adjustment.

That phrase made Lena’s blood turn cold.

Someone was using Rose’s old agreement.

Someone had triggered discounts, access, and vendor priority under a legacy client code tied to Lena’s name.

Vanessa.

Of course Vanessa.

She had not only erased Lena.

She had used her.

Lena traced the chain carefully.

The first unauthorized use happened two months after Grant and Vanessa got engaged.

The second tied to Elaine’s email.

The third linked Richard to a vendor approval.

The final one connected Mason? No.

There was no Mason here.

There was only Vanessa.

Vanessa’s signature.

Vanessa’s wedding planner.

Vanessa’s private instructions to “keep legacy client reference off groom-facing summaries.”

Lena printed that line and stared at it for a long time.

Then she took the full packet to Grant’s general counsel.

Grant entered the meeting halfway through.

He looked composed when he walked in.

He did not stay that way.

Lena was sitting across the table in a black blazer, hair pulled back, file open in front of her.

Grant looked at the nameplate.

Lena Hart.

His eyes sharpened.

“You’re Vanessa’s sister.”

Lena met his gaze.

“Yes.”

Grant’s face tightened.

“She said you stole from your grandmother.”

Lena slid Rose’s documents across the table.

“No. Vanessa did.”

Grant did not respond immediately.

To his credit, he read.

Really read.

He read Rose’s original Whitmore agreement.

The forged care account records.

The unauthorized event charges.

The internal emails.

The wedding invoices.

The legacy client code used under Lena’s name.

By the end, his expression was no longer doubtful.

It was sick.

“My wedding is part of this.”

Lena answered honestly.

“Yes.”

Grant looked toward the window.

For a moment, he looked less like an heir and more like a man realizing the woman he was about to marry had built their life on stolen paper.

“Why wait until the wedding?” he asked.

Lena’s voice stayed steady.

“Because your legal team needed direct evidence of her using the event in real time. If we moved too early, she could claim it was clerical.”

Grant looked back at her.

“And if I stop the wedding now?”

“Then she may still walk away with half the story buried.”

He understood.

His jaw tightened.

“You want her to expose herself.”

“I want her to stop hiding behind rooms full of people who believe her.”

Grant studied Lena.

There was pain in his eyes now.

Pain, and respect.

“What do you need from me?”

Lena’s throat tightened.

No one in her family had asked her that in six years.

She opened the next folder.

“Access. Police coordination. And the final guest list.”

Grant looked at the top page.

His face went pale.

Because there, under authorized corporate clients and legacy representatives, was one name Vanessa had never expected to see.

May you like

Lena Hart.

👉 Lena arrived at the wedding legally invited, but Vanessa’s first instinct was still to humiliate her before anyone could read the file.
