Her supposed salary totaled $118,000.
Mia never received it.
The company claimed taxes were withheld.
They were not.
The Internal Revenue Service showed income under her Social Security number and unpaid obligations attached to it.
Douglas used the fake payroll records to explain why loan and trust money moved through company accounts.
On paper, Mia received wages.
In reality, the funds returned to Douglas through false expense reimbursements.
The arrangement made her appear responsible for company debt and tax fraud.
Naomi requested immediate identity-theft protections.
Federal investigators joined the case.
Douglas’s defense changed.
He now claimed Mia had worked remotely.
