Chapter 4

Hassan turned to leave.

Before he took three steps, a senior officer came running into the corridor.

His face was pale.

A radio shook in his hand.

“Commander.”

Hassan spun on him.

“What?”

The officer glanced toward Alexis’s cell.

Then back at Hassan.

His voice dropped.

“Her cell camera just went dark.”

The corridor went silent.

Alexis lifted her head very slowly.

The young guard had already placed the key in the lock.

His hand froze.

Hassan stared at the officer.

“What do you mean dark?”

The officer swallowed.

“No signal. Only that cell.”

Hassan turned toward Alexis.

And for the first time, she let him see it.

Not fear.

Not pain.

Recognition.

Like she had been waiting for that exact sentence.

The young guard pushed the door open.

Alexis looked at him.

Then at the keys.

Then back at Hassan.

Her voice was barely above a whisper.

“Count faster.”

The guard shoved her inside.

The door slammed.

The lock turned.

The hallway exploded with orders.

“Check the wires!”

“Bring the technician!”

“Move the prisoner to another cell!”

But it was already too late.

Inside Cell Four, Alexis stood in total darkness.

No camera.

No eyes.

No performance.

She flexed her wrists once.

The rope around her hands was tight.

May you like

But not tight enough.
