Chapter 5 - The File Named October 14

Marco Bellini had been waiting for October 14 for eight months.

Isabella chose the date.

Not because it was symbolic to anyone else.

Because it was the day she signed the emergency instructions in his office.

If the necklace returns after October 14, open the file in front of Vincent.

Not before.

Not privately.

Not through Silas.

Only in front of Vincent, with witnesses.

Marco had argued.

“This is dangerous.”

Isabella answered, “So is being married to a man everyone fears and knowing the real snake sleeps beside his throne.”

Marco had protected powerful people for thirty years.

But Isabella was different.

She did not want money.

She did not want revenge.

She wanted Vincent to survive the truth without destroying the wrong person first.

The necklace was the trigger.

Inside the sapphire clasp was not a secret chip or a movie fantasy.

It was simpler.

A custom mark.

A hidden inscription only Marco and Isabella knew.

Return of the necklace proved the person carrying it had received it directly from Isabella or from someone she trusted.

The real evidence was in Marco’s file.

Bank transfers.

Voice recordings.

Photographs.

A written statement.

And a sealed video Isabella made two days before her death.

Marco had tried to reach Vincent after Isabella died.

Silas blocked every request.

“Mr. Romano is grieving.”

“Mr. Romano is not receiving legal matters.”

“Mr. Romano has no interest in your paperwork.”

Then Marco’s office was broken into.

Nothing obvious taken.

Just delayed files.

Disrupted calls.

Warnings dressed as accidents.

Marco went quiet after that.

Not because he gave up.

Because Isabella had instructed him to wait for the necklace.

Now, in Aurelia’s back hallway, Marco watched the live security feed on the manager’s monitor.

Vincent’s hand on Lydia.

The sapphire visible.

Silas turning pale.

Marco’s phone buzzed with the timed message Isabella had scheduled months earlier.

If the necklace returns, do not let Silas speak first.

Attached was a photo of Lydia from the diner booth.

Isabella had taken it secretly that night.

Not to expose Lydia.

To identify her later.

Marco opened the folder labeled October 14.

Then he said to the manager, “Get me Vincent. Now.”

By the time he reached the dining room, Vincent had released Lydia, but the damage was done.

The poor girl stood shaking near the table, one hand on her throat, eyes fixed on Silas.

Vincent looked like a man standing on the edge of a cliff with no idea whether the next step was justice or ruin.

Marco placed the folder on the nearest table.

“Before anyone else speaks,” he said, “Isabella left instructions.”

Silas tried to laugh.

“Vincent, this is absurd.”

Marco did not look at him.

“Those were her exact words too.”

Vincent’s face went still.

“What words?”

Marco opened the first page.

If Silas calls this absurd, he is scared.

The room fell silent.

Silas stopped smiling.

👉 Isabella knew Silas’s first lie before he told it, and every page after that pulled Vincent closer to the truth he had refused to see.
