Chapter 4 - The Plan Behind The Perfect Christmas

For years, I believed my mother was protective.

Strong.

Difficult.

But loving.

Now I saw something else.

Control.

She didn’t want a family.

She wanted obedience.

Emily explained everything.

Months earlier, she noticed money disappearing from the company accounts.

Small amounts.

Carefully hidden.

She started investigating.

Then Margaret found out.

“That’s why she hated me,” Emily whispered.

I felt guilty.

Because Emily had been fighting alone.

I had defended my family without asking questions.

That was my mistake.

Then my phone rang.

My brother.

I almost ignored it.

But I answered.

“Daniel, you need to come back.”

“Why?”

Silence.

Then:

“Because Mom knows you found out.”

My hand tightened around the phone.

“How?”

Another pause.

Then he said:

May you like

“She has been watching your accounts.”

📖 Chapter 5 reveals how Margaret controlled Daniel’s life and the first evidence that the betrayal was much bigger than Christmas dinner. 👇
